DUKE — Multiple people were killed and an 8-year-old boy was hospitalized following a Thursday afternoon wreck in Jackson County.
The unidentified 8-year-old Mountain Park boy was flown to United Regional Medical Center in Wichita Falls, Texas, where he was admitted in critical condition with trunk injuries, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
The boy was riding in a Ford Focus driven by Landreth J. Emswiler, 36, of Mountain Park, when the car and a Ford Expedition crashed shortly after 3:45 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of U.S. 62 and South County Road 194, 3 miles east of Duke, Trooper De’Ante Harris reported.
Emswiler and two of his passengers, a 17-year-old girl and an 11-year-old girl, all from Mountain Park, died at the scene of the wreck. All passengers in the Focus were wearing seatbelts, according to the report.
Harris reported the driver of the Expedition and the passenger, both unidentified pending identification, also died at the scene.
The roadway was closed for over five hours following the wreck.
What happened and the conditions of the driver remain under investigation.
