OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma State School Boards Association Foundation has opened the application period for the Dr. Bob Mooneyham Memorial Scholarship.
The scholarship provide a one-time $5,000 financial award to a high school senior who plans to become an Oklahoma teacher. Applications are due Jan. 12, and candidates may fill out applications online at ossba.org/scholarship.
To qualify, candidates must be a high school student who will earn a diploma from an Oklahoma public high school during the 2023-24 school year and has plans to pursue a degree at an accredited Oklahoma college, university or career technology center beginning in Fall 2024. Other criteria include a minimum 3.0 unweighted high school grade point average and a minimum 20 ACT or 1040 SAT score. Financial need also will be considered.
The scholarship recipient will be notified of his/her selection by mid-March.
Mooneyham, who died in 2012, began his career as a teacher, coach and guidance counselor before becoming a school superintendent and college professor. He also served as executive director of OSSBA for 25 years.
