Anyone interested in Chuck Norris, “Walker, Texas Ranger,” and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu can attend a presentation by internationally acclaimed martial artist Carlos Machado at 2 p.m April 5 in the University Theatre at Cameron University.
According to a press release, Machado is one of only a handful of 8th degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) coral belts in the world. He has held world championship titles, was inducted into the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Hall of Fame, has been featured in magazines and developed the Machado Method. Machado personally trained Chuck Norris and helped him choreograph fight scenes in “Walker Texas Ranger.”
The release said Machado will present how techniques learned through BJJ can help improve overall mental health.
The release said the mental health benefits of BJJ include an outlet for stress and anxiety, mindfulness, confidence, enhanced problem-solving skills, improved sleep and essential life skills that help manage mental health.
The release also said the presentation is in conjunction with CU’s academic festival, “Care and Health: A Generational Approach” and is open to the public at no charge.
The event is funded by the McCasland Foundation of Duncan, the primary sponsor for CU’s academic festival.
