DUNCAN — A Marlow man is behind bars on $25,000 bond and looking at 20 years to life in prison after he was accused of hitting a man in the head several times during an argument over a trailer.
Shawn Tanner Rowe, 33, made his initial appearance Monday in Stephens County District Court where he received a felony charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon after two or more felony convictions, records indicate. The prior convictions make him eligible for longer sentencing if convicted.
Chickasaw Nation Lighthorse Police Officer Michael Newsome stated he was called shortly after 10 p.m. Oct. 12 to a Marlow home after a man was assaulted with a fire extinguisher. The victim had apparent injuries to his face, the probable cause affidavit states.
The injured man said he and Rowe had gotten into a fight over a camper trailer on his property. He said Rowe struck him multiple times in the head with the fire extinguisher when he tried to call 911, the affidavit states. Rowe then left the scene.
Rowe was found at another home in Marlow and he was arrested. While on the way to jail, Rowe told Newsome he’d like to tell his side of the story. He said he only hit the man with his hands and that the other man began hitting him with the fire extinguisher, according to the affidavit. He said he defended himself by returning the strikes on the man.
Rowe has a June 2018 felony conviction in Oklahoma County for a count of domestic assault and battery by strangulation, and another from Stephens County in September 2021 for aggravated assault and battery, records indicate.
Rowe returns to court at 9 a.m. Jan. 17, 2024, for his preliminary hearing conference.
