It is pretty obvious that spring is in the air and folks are ready to get outdoors and hit the golf course as following Richard Jacoby’s ‘back nine’ reference in last week’s Color Pin event, Gary Sammons, Early Birds Secretary, says “Steve Mans would have liked a Mulligan the first frame of the first game in last Monday’s session.”

Mans left a solid 10-pin to start the night and proceeded to take strikes off the sheet for a 290 score and 11 in a row bragging rights but a Mulligan might have been nice.

By the way, we don’t have those in bowling but Mans saved the set with added games of 223 and 192 to sum up the league’s only 700 series of 705.

Adult League Highlights

High series numbers came out of the TNT league at Thunderbird Lanes where Amanda Price led the masses with games of 217, 268 and 257 for a 742.

Mark Hill was in the house shooting 248, 237 and 247 for a 732 and James Ray put up 225, 279 and 224 for a 728.

Mitchell Hill rounded out the TNT high rollers list with 702 on games of 257, 236 and 209.

Tory Morales hit the high spots for a 728 to lead in the Tuesday Night Mixed at Twin Oaks rolling games of 233, 237 and 258, and Johnathan McCoy finished the night with the front ten strikes, set-tling for 288.

Last week’s headliner Jeff Janssen made the reel this week with the high set in the Suburban league of 716 that went 267, 236 and 213, followed by the afore mentioned Johnathan McCoy who on this night had more than just one good game.

In fact, McCoy was in the zone with all three games scoring 247, 244 and 224 for a 715.

And hitting 700 on the money was Kent Ames with games of 222, 266 and 212.

Pins over average honors go to Robert Morin who, shooting off a 151 average in the Guys and Dolls league, rolled 204, 236 and 155 for a 595 series.

Summer league schedules have been posted at Thunderbird Lanes. In some cases, limited space is available so early sign ups are encouraged.

Youth Highlights

First year league bowler Raiden Jenkins was consistently over average, scoring 165, 173 and 184 off a 154 average to lead in the TBird Legends.

Lee Perry ruled in the TBird HotShots with a 458 series on games of 141, 155 and 162 and Cash Hill had a record setting day shooting 136, 114 and 165 for a 415 series off a 106 average.

And bowling in the MiniShots bumper league, Knox Hill rolled a 105 game and Flora Banks, in just her second week in the league, hit the 100 mark on the nose.

No-Tap News

Herbert Scott took first place in last Friday’s Senior No-Tap Colorama at Thunderbird Lanes with an 881 handicap series that included a no-tap scratch 297 scored in game three.

John Fortner finished in second with a 798 and Armour Brown rolled 756 for third.

Sue Avis won the women’s division with 743, followed by Cathy Shuman with 714 and Margit Augus-tine with 713.

It was a small crowd so only the first two spots were paid, the same as the scratch singles event where Scott took first with 761 and Fortner took second with 723.

Mystery Doubles winners were Malden Smith with David Jones, 556, Peggy Towne with Diane Frame, 541 and Herb Scott with Sue Avis, 572.

There were no Challenge Shot winners but Strike Pot Tickets were easy pickings for Randy Travis, Herb Scott, Peggy Towne, John Fortner and Cleo Travis.

Senior bowlers age 50 and over are invited to join the fun every Friday afternoon at Thunderbird Lanes starting at 1 p.m.
