Happy Christmas Eve everyone! Welcome to this week’s bowling news, where we find Nick Macias at center stage with an awesome string of strikes that resulted in a 299 game scored in game two, following a 280 starter in the Goodyear Mixed league at Thunderbird Lanes.
As reported by Richard Jacoby, who was pulling some desk hours on the night of Sunday, Dec. 15, Nick started off with a strike right off the bat and then left a ‘stone’ eight pin in frame two. After making the spare, Nick went off the sheet with strikes for a 280 score and continued to throw strikes for the next eleven frames until a stubborn 7-pin showed on the final throw of the game to allow for a 299 score for game two.
If you are counting, that was 21 strikes in a row in the first two games. Nick started game three with another strike but soon lost his edge, opening the next four frames. A slight adjustment put a 4-bagger on the board, but another open in the 10th left Macias with a 169 game and a 748 for the series.
This week’s honor roll high series was a 768 by Tyler Price, who shot 269, 217, and 279 while sub-bing in the His and Hers’. Additionally, a couple of days earlier, Price had shot 232, 269, and 231 for a 732 in the TNT. Tyler’s bride Amanda rolled the ladies’ high set in the His and Hers’ as well, scoring 222, 234, and 224 for a 680. On the same night, Stephen Pennington tried for another 300 game, starting the set with a front ten, ending with a 287.
Honorable mention from the His and Hers’ goes to Karen VanHaastert for posting her first 200 game of 220. Congrats are also in order for Cody Ashby for rolling his first 600 of 612 in the Early Birds, where he had games of 200, 233, and 179 off a 161 average.
Other 700’s across the lanes last week included Brant Hill with a 718 in the Early Birds on games of 276, 225, and 217. Michael Converson had a 708 in the Tuesday Night Mixed, with games of 269, 231, and 208, followed by Tory Morales, who shot 235, 226, and 243 for a 704. Malden Smith was the only bowler in the Suburban league with a 700, hitting the target on the money with games of 249, 231, and 220.
Youth highlights
Ty Smith led on the youth league front with a 679 in the TBird Legends, scoring 234, 228, and 217 to make up the set. Other Legends news includes Trevor Richardson, who bowled a career-high 216 in his last game of the day, giving him a career-high series of 502.

Rick Olson followed with 837, thanks to a 298 closer, and Scott Brenke rounded out the top three with 834. Kathy Zerbe took first for the gals with a 783, followed by Teri Jester’s 769.
