Mac girls, LHS boys will host regional tournaments

MacArthur girls and Lawton High School boys clinched runner-up honors in their districts and will host regional tournaments next week.

MacArthur girls beat Guymon, 54-51, Tuesday to climb to 11-3 in District 5A-2 which has clinched second behind 14-0 Midwest City girls. Del City is third but trails Mac by two games and both teams have just one game remaining, with Mac playing Eisenhower Friday in its final game.

The Mac girls will be hosting a regional that begins on Tuesday, Feb. 20 with the Highlanders facing Crossings Christian at 6 p.m. The other game in the Mac girls regional matches Shawnee and Santa Fe South at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 20. The winners meet at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23.

MacArthur boys beat Guymon, 79-40, but the Highlanders are going to finish third in District 5A-2 and will be on the road for a regional tournament. The regional pairings were announced Wednesday by the OSSAA.

MacArthur boys will head to Guthrie where they will face Shawnee at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22. Elgin boys will be playing John Marshall on Feb. 22 at Carl Albert.

Lawton High School boys picked up a big win Tuesday at home over Yukon, 66-47, and that pushed the Wolverines into a tie with Edmond Santa Fe at 9-5 in District 6A-2. The Wolverines, though, have the tiebreaker with two victories over Santa Fe.

The Wolverines will face Putnam City North on Thursday, Feb. 22, at 6 p.m. at the Wolverines’ Gym. The other game in that regional will match Moore and Northwest Classen at 7:30 p.m. on the same date, Thursday, Feb. 22.

LHS girls lost to Yukon, 61-19, leaving them to travel for regional competition. The LHS girls have drawn a tough assignment and will face PC North at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 20, at PC North. The other game in that regional matches Norman and Norman North at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 20, also at PC North.

Eisenhower girls dropped a 52-29 decision to Norman Tuesday while the Ike boys lost 83-37. Both Ike teams will have to hit the road for regional competition starting with the girls games on Feb. 20 and the boys on Feb. 22. The Ike girls will face Mustang at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at Yukon. The other game in that regional matches Yukon and Deer Creek at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20 also at Yukon.

The Ike boys will be competing in a 6A regional at Edmond North against the hosts at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22. The other game in that regional pits Putnam City West against Mustang at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22.

Also in Class 5A, Elgin girls will head to Midwest City where the Owls will face Noble at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 20.
