Scores are starting to trickle in for the summer season so there is not much of an honor roll.
In the meantime, the Goodyear league has held their roll-off to determine the league Champion for the season and as is the norm, great scoring with tough competition was delivered.
The first roll off round consisted of the winners from each of the season’s four quarters.
Seeded by total wins for the quarter, Team #1, Balls Deep, Dale McGlinn, Matt Casey, Brandon Isom, Michael Gillian and Tim Lundquist went against Team #4, DNA, Nick Macias, Allison Prisco-Macias, Jonathan Nix, Ashley Miller-Mans and Anthony (AJ) Mans.
Team Balls Deep won the match 3 games to 1 with the aid of Matt Casey’s 277 game and 672 series and Tim Lundquist’s 217 game and 718 series.
Mans put up a fight with a 663 set but it just was not enough.
The other match had Team #8, Strike Hard, Steve Freitag, Anita Fishbeck, Chad Perry, David Fishbeck, Craig Fain Sr. and Diana Fain bowling against Team #7, GutterBusters, Rob Scoggins, Michaela Rutledge-Morales, Michael Jones, Willy Strong, Tony Myers and Tory Morales.
Team Strike Hard took the first game but with only two players on their roster available, GutterBusters won games two, three and series, to advance to the final round that was held May 26..
The best of the rest put on a show with three very close games and a perfect finish to end the season.
Secretary Steve Freitag reported that Team Balls Deep won game one 1087 to 1066 with the help of Casey’s 220 game, Gillian’s 235 and Lundquist’s 255 score.
Team GutterBusters came back with a win for game two, 989 to 967. Scores dropped in that game as McGlinn turned in a 211 and Morales shot 212 for the highs.
Freitag said that Balls Deep regrouped in game three and came back with a vengeance but the GutterBusters never backed down and the match went head to head up to the final frame.
Old friends and former teammates Tim Lundquist and Tory Morales were left as opponents in this match, dueling for the league Championship honor for their respective teams this season.
Lundquist had the front nine going into game three and needed to double to shut Morales out for the win and title.
Both players rolled the first strike in the tenth but when Lundquist also got the eleventh and garnered the win, Morales rolled out for a 224 and let his friend have the spotlight.
Even though the championship was won, Lundquist’s job wasn’t done as he needed one more strike for a 300 game.
And one more strike is what he threw, ending the season with a perfect score.
A special thanks to this league’s secretary Steve Freitag putting in the extra time for this league over the years.
