Let’s keep our fingers crossed as there is still a few weeks left of the annual Women’s Nationals tournament that is being held in Reno until June 29th but as of right now, our one and only Zari Conway is sitting on the leaderboard in first place in the Ruby division in the long running USBC tournament.
This is Conway’s 20th year of bowling in the event where she admits to never being on the leaderboard at any level and at the moment can be seen grinning from ear to ear with her current situation.
Conway had games of 226, 188 and 244 to make up the 658 scratch series that is currently high in the Ruby class and by only one pin!
Here’s hoping that it is good enough when the last pin falls.
Adult League Highlights
We are just about done with the fall/winter season as only a couple of stragglers who got caught in bad weather delays are all that remain.
Leading through the final days is Brandon Isom on the last night of the Goodyear league.
Isom put games of 235, 256 and 214 together for a 705 to end his season.
Jim Bomboy was next closest on the series list with 697 from the Suburban league where the week’s high game of 286 topped the game charts, scored by Patrick Caton.
Lisa Tipton-Gass led the ladies with her 618 set from the Suburban as well, thanks to a 237 closer, also the high game for the gals this week.
We always have something special so we offer honorable mentions to Kaleb Phillips for a 264 game off a 177 average from the Guys and Dolls and a shout out to Dusty Valdez for converting the 6-7-10 split in the Early Birds.
Youth Bowling
Youth leagues are temporarily on hold until the summer season kicks off.
Parents of interested youth bowlers are encouraged to contact Thunderbird Lanes or Twin Oaks Bowling Center for youth bowling activities throughout the summer months.
Congratulations are in order to a couple of our local youth for their recent accomplishment at the annual Bowler of the Year event that was held at Frontier Lanes in Stillwater on May 4th and 5th.
Taking 2nd place in the U8 Boys division was Carter Dickerson (Twin Oaks) for a $300 scholarship.
Kennedi Hicks (TBird) won a $400 scholarship for winning first in the U10 girls division and Lee Perry (TBird) won a $150 scholarship for placing 3rd in the U10 boys group.
Jake Croft (TBird) placed 6th in the U15 boys division for a $75 scholarship and Ali Biscaino (TBird) placed 2nd in the U18 Girls class for a $300 scholarship.
DJ Scott of Thunderbird Lanes won the Sportsmanship Award for a $75 scholarship and Maddox Swietek (TBird) won a random draw scholarship to wrap up the take from local youth bowlers.
Congratulations to each and every one.
No-Tap News
Steve Jester could do no wrong as he put up a 926 total to win first place in the weekly senior no-tap color pin event at Thunderbird Lanes.
Jester had games of 287, 285 and 252 to make up the total.
Roy Johnson had his best set to date, finishing in second with 823 on games of 206, 210 and 284 and Ryan Thomas made the winners list with 766 on games of 257, 242 and 204.
Teri Jester took first place in the women’s division with 785.
Steve Jester also grabbed the Scratch title for an 824, followed by Teri Jester, 752, and Steve Mans, 748.
Cleo Travis was the lucky bowler to draw Steve Jester as a Mystery Doubles partner and the pair took first in both games one and three.
Taking game two was Diane Frame with Randy Travis.
Steve Mans had beginners luck on his side as the only winner of the Challenge Shot portion of the event, winning the “21” jackpot after a strike and then counts of eight and three to add up to the goal.
Bowlers age 50 and over are invited to join the fun every Friday afternoon at Thunderbird Lanes starting at 1 p.m.
