Lawton Public Library announced that the Comanche language is now available on its Transparent Language database, free to access with a library card.
Transparent Language offers over 110 languages to its learners and is constantly growing. Explore full-length alphabet courses and over 25 learning activities to encourage practicing all four modalities: listening, speaking, reading, and typing.
Transparent Language Comanche courses were created by the Comanche Nation Language Department in 2023. With fewer than fifty fluent Comanche speakers remaining, the Comanche Nation Language Department aims to preserve and promote this vital component of Comanche culture. These courses focus on teaching the orthography adopted in 1993 as well as establishing baseline vocabulary in everyday usage.
“Lawton Public Library is excited to support the preservation of the Comanche language,” said Kristin Herr, Library Director. “By making learning materials free and accessible to our community, we hope to honor the cultural heritage of the Comanche people and provide a way for our community to connect with and learn about this rich history.”
