OKLAHOMA CITY — A public drawing held Tuesday specifies the Libertarian Party will be listed first on ballots in the Nov. 5 General Election.
The drawing was held by State Election Board Secretary Paul Ziriax to determine the ballot order for political parties and Independent candidates, a process specified in state law. The results set the following order: Libertarian Party, Republican Party, Democratic Party.
Under state rules, recognized political party candidates appear on the ballot in lot order. Independent candidates are placed on the ballot following the candidates of recognized political parties. If more than one Independent candidate files for a particular office, then a drawing is held to determine the ballot order of those Independent candidates.
Ziriax said two independent presidential candidates have qualified for Oklahoma’s General Election Ballot and Tuesday’s drawing determined the order they would appear on the ballot: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (presidential candidate) and Nicole Ann Shanahan (vice presidential candidate); and Chris Garrity (presidential candidate) and Cody Ballard (vice presidential candidate).
Presidential candidate filing documents are available on the Oklahoma State Election Board website at https://oklahoma.gov/elections/candidates/2024-presidential-general-election.html.
The last day to register to vote for the General Election is Oct. 11. Information is available on the State Election Board website at https://oklahoma.gov/elections/voter-registration/register-to-vote.html.
