Following last week’s heartbreaker versus Altus, Lawton High’s Javon Adams and Kieston Rosada feel confident the team will bounce back and making a statement when playoffs roll around.
“Coming off a loss last week, we just need to bounce back. We’ve got more to come this week and with playoffs coming up so we’re looking ahead to make a good run,” said Adams.
Adams is a junior free safety who takes preparation before a game seriously. To him, getting in the mindset to play at your best starts at the beginning of the week.
“You’ve got to come in on Monday ready to play for Friday,” said Adams. “You’ve got to be already thinking about what you’re going to do, what your assignment is, and watch film to be prepared.”
This week the Wolverines will be playing on the road at Guthrie, which currently stands second in the district standings. This game along with the outcome of the Altus and Carl Albert game will decide where Lawton High will be heading when the playoffs begin next week.
Adams acknowledged the talent Guthrie has, but thinks his squad is going to come out ready to play. Either way, he gives kudos to the coaching staff for helping the team get this far.
“They’re a good team, but I feel like if we can and play well, we could go home with a win,” said Adams. “I’ve got to give a hand to our coaches. They got us prepared to win games and got us this far, so I know they’ll have us ready with playoffs around the corner.”
Rosada is a sophomore running back in his first year at Lawton High. Since joining the squad he’s enjoyed the team’s success and hard-work mentality.
“I’ve been feeling great. We’ve had a winning season and it’s because we come out each day and use what we learn on Friday,” said Rosada. “It’s important to keep a mental focus the week building up to a game, so you understand what the team needs. If you go hard in practice, you’ll have nothing to worry about on game day.”
For this week’s matchup against Guthrie, Rosada thinks the team will put up a fight. Rosada is happy to see his goal of reaching the playoffs inching ever closer.
“Guthrie’s a good team, we’ve just got to go out there and play our hearts out,” said Rosada. “Our hard work has got us to this point. I’m new to Lawton and this is a big goal for me. It’s my first time in the playoffs and I’m thankful for our coaches for getting us here.”
