Let’s Talk About It will conclude its series with a discussion of “Lonesome Dove” at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Cameron University Library.
This year’s discussion theme revolved around the cowboy life, focusing on Western American and cowboy culture. The participants of the previous series decided to explore this contrasting topic, which delved into Native American Culture.
East Central University Professor Ken Hada, an esteemed scholar in modern American, regional, and ethnic literature, will conclude this series with a discussion on the book “Lonesome Dove” by Larry McMurtry.
“Lonesome Dove” is set in the late 19th century and follows the journey of Augustus “Gus” McCrae and Woodrow F. Call, two former Texas Rangers, as they embark on a dangerous cattle drive from Texas to Montana. The narrative encompasses treacherous landscapes, encounters with dangerous outlaws, and personal hardships, all while showcasing the impact of the American frontier on their lives. Friendship, loyalty, love, and the harsh realities of the era are among the prominent themes explored within the novel.
Individuals interested in participating in the Let’s Talk About It book club can pick up copies of “Lonesome Dove” at the Arts & Humanities Division Office, 801 NW Ferris between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.
