A woman charged with selling a dose of fatal fentanyl has joined another in pleading guilty to their roles in the incident.
Jody Kay McDaniel, 35, of Lawton, pleaded guilty Wednesday in Comanche County District Court to felony charges of second-degree murder and unlawful use of a communication facility, records indicate.
Presiding District Judge Emmit Tayloe sentenced McDaniel to 20 years with the Department of Corrections with 10 years to serve and 10 suspended for the murder count and a five-year sentence to run concurrently for the second count. She will have to serve 85 percent, or 8½ years, before being eligible for parole.
McDaniel also will have to pay $2,453 in court costs and fines.
McDaniel joins Brandon Samuel McClure in accepting guilt for their roles in the Jan. 17 overdose death of Steven Knight, 60, who was found dead from a fentanyl overdose at 315 SW Washington. McClure is accused of selling the fatal dose of fentanyl to Knight.
McClure, who overdosed on fentanyl pills he’d smuggled into the Lawton City Jail following his arrest, pleaded guilty on June 18. He was sentenced to 15 years with the Department of Corrections with eight years to serve and seven years suspended for the murder count, three years to serve for the use of a communication facility and three years for the contraband charge. All sentences are to be served concurrently.
McClure and McDaniel, 35, were each charged Jan. 24 along with Sang Hoon Lee, 23, who also was charged with second-degree murder, using a telephone to distribute a controlled drug, distribution/possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, and unlawful possession of a controlled drug with the intent to distribute, records indicate.
Held on $150,000 bond, Lee is next scheduled to appear in court at 4 p.m. Sept. 12 for a preliminary hearing conference, records indicate.
