ANADARKO — A Lawton teen is in jail after, he told police, he made some bad decisions.
Austin Camberg, 18, listed as homeless on court paperwork, made his initial appearances Tuesday in Caddo County District Court. In one case, he received a felony charge of third-degree burglary, and misdemeanor charges of obstructing police and threatening to perform an act of violence. In the other, he received a felony charge of second-degree burglary, and a misdemeanor charge of larceny of merchandise from a retailer, records indicate.
Cyril Police Chief Richard Jones stated he was called shortly before 11 p.m. Monday to a home at 203 N. 3rd on a report Camberg had threatened to shoot someone and had broken into a vehicle. Several gunshots were reported heard as well.
While Jones was en route, it was learned Camberg had fled and was at a house at 110 S. 6th, the probable cause affidavit states.
When Jones arrived, a female said Camberg was at the house. Once inside, two males said “he’s in the roof” from the attic. Jones announced himself and told Camberg to come out but he didn’t, the affidavit states. Caddo County Sheriff’s Deputies were called for backup due to Jones being told the teen had a gun. A standoff then ensued.
Jones spoke with the initial caller who said Camberg had threatened to “shoot up his house” and “shoot his son,” according to the affidavit. He said he didn’t take it seriously until he heard gunshots outside his house.
The man said he went to check his son’s vehicle and when he opened the door, Camberg jumped out at him so he struck him in the face, sending the teen running away, Jones stated. Camberg’s shoes were found inside the truck.
Jones returned to the home on 6th Street and shortly before 11:30 p.m., the Caddo County Special Response Team arrived.
Following numerous commands to come out, pepper balls were deployed into the attic and coughing was heard, Jones stated. Camberg eventually came down and surrendered. No gun was found.
While taking Camberg to the Caddo County Detention Center, the teen told Jones, “I made some bad decisions tonight,” the affidavit states.
Camberg, who is being held on $10,000 bond, returns to court at 9 a.m. April 25 for his preliminary hearing conference, records indicate.
