A Lawton student will graduate from the Oklahoma School for the Deaf, Sulphur, on May 21.
According to a press release, Shakayla DeAnn Simmons has attended the school since second grade. As a basketball player, she has participated in many competitions. She also placed third at the Great Plain Schools for the Deaf Girls Team Basketball Tournament.
Oklahoma School for the Deaf has been located in Sulphur since 1908. The school provides residential and day school educational services at no charge for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. The school provides a range of outreach programs, including preschool programs and onsite consultation for public school students, their families, public school districts and communities statewide.
