Lawton student Zachary Porter was honored with the prestigious National Indigenous Award through the College Board National Recognition Programs for his academic work.
Porter is a senior who attends Oklahoma Virtual Charter Academy (OVCA), a tuition-free virtual charter school serving students across the state.
“There’s no one more deserving of this recognition than Zachary,” said LeAn Sanders, OVCA high school principal. “He is an incredibly dedicated student who gives his all, no matter the task. Receiving a national award like this will help him stand out among other college applicants and set him up for success.”
Porter is a member of the Choctaw Nation and has attended OVCA for his entire high school career. He says online education has helped him focus better on achieving a high GPA and strong test scores.
“Transferring to OVCA has been a game changer for me,” Porter said. “My teachers provide me with one-on-one support, and I’m able to work at an accelerated pace. I definitely feel like I’ll be ahead of the curve when I start college next year thanks to OVCA.”
