Lawton Pro Musica wants to help residents celebrate spring.
The Joy of Song is the theme for a spring concert set for 7 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Baptist Church, 1916 W. Gore. The concert also will feature the Cameron University Concert Choir, under the direction of Christian Morren. Admission is free.
Choir members say they want to celebrate the fact that music connects and touches our lives in ways that words often fail to do.
Nancy Willoughby, executive director of Pro Musica, said she believes music is one of the threads that connects people as a community. So, for this concert, she said expressive, encouraging and uplifting songs have been chosen to acknowledge that connection. And, as always, there will be opportunities for the audience to sing along with the choir.
Willoughby said the opportunity to partner with the Cameron Concert Choir is a highlight of the Pro Musica season. One of the missions of the Pro Musica organization is to invest in the future of music education in the community and as the audience hears Cameron students sing, they will see future band directors, vocal music teachers and church musicians who will serve in the Lawton/Fort Sill area, she said.
Pro Musica is made up of professional musicians from all walks of life. From teachers to retired church musicians, the group has been bringing the gift of music to Lawton since 2003, when it was created by Nancy Willoughby. Information is available at www.lawtonpromusica.org or on Facebook.
