An arrest warrant was issued Thursday for a Lawton Correctional Facility of stabbing his cellmate in September 2023.
The Comanche County District Court issued a felony arrest warrant for Israel Carrillo, 27, for a count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, records indicate.
Carrillo walked up behind his cellmate in the pod dayroom at the prison, 8607 SE Flower Mound Road, shortly before 12:15 p.m. on Sept. 27, 2023, while the cellmate was in line for food, according to Oklahoma Department of Corrections Office of the Inspector General Agent Joey Bales statement. Carrillo then stabbed the man with a homemade knife once in the back, once in the right side of the head and once in the right side of the neck, the warrant affidavit states. After being stabbed, the cellmate told investigators he saw Carrillo.
The cellmate said earlier that day while he was trying to sleep, Carrillo kept going in and out of the cell and he asked Carrillo to stay in or go out and stay out while he slept. The inmate got up at noon to get his food when he was attacked, the affidavit states. He said he first thought he’d been hit and when he turned and saw Carrillo with the homemade knife, he realized he’d been stabbed, Bales stated.
Bales stated he watched the incident on the prison security video. The wounded inmate was taken to the medical unit before he was sent to Comanche County Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Carrillo is serving time for several convictions in Cleveland County from August 2017 for first-degree burglary, kidnapping, first-degree rape, domestic abuse and domestic assault and battery, according to Oklahoma Department of Corrections records.
