Outstanding police officers from Lawton’s law enforcement department were honored during Tuesday’s City Council meeting.
Five officers from the Lawton Police Department were recognized for their service by members of the Oklahoma Association of Chiefs of Police executive board: Chickasha Assistant Police Chief Daimon Alexander and Tuttle Chief of Police Donald Cluck, according to Lt. Charles Whittington, LPD information officer.
Those commended:
•Sgt. Ronald Dimmit and Captain Justin Thorne, commendation awards.
The Award of Commendation is given for providing outstanding service and performance or contributions to the department or community that is beyond the scope and commitment of normal services and/or duties to their agency or citizens.
•Sgt. Colton Crowe and Sgt. Tyler Zehren, life saving awards.
The Life Saving award is awarded to an officer or civilian employee who, acting with disregard for their own safety and through their prompt and alert action, saves the life of an individual or several people through a heroic act.
•Sgt Brandon Newhouse, officer of the year.
The Officer of the Year Award is awarded to any full-time officer who has distinguished him or herself in a commendable manner during the calendar year for which the award is presented.
Whittington said these officers serve as role models. He hopes seeing the difference they and other officers make may inspire new faces to join the police department for its upcoming academy. It’s more than a job, it’s a calling, he said.
