Following two days of trial, a Comanche County jury found a Lawton man guilty of several counts related to pimping a woman out and was sentenced to 60 years in prison.

Domonique Eugene Cooper, 31, was found guilty in the courtroom of Comanche County District Judge Scott D. Meaders of felony charges of first-degree burglary, feloniously pointing a firearm, and possession of a firearm after former felony convictions, as well as misdemeanor counts of domestic abuse-assault and battery and possession of a controlled dangerous substance, records indicate.

Cooper received 20 years in prison for the burglary count and another 20 years for the human trafficking charge, 15 years for pointing a firearm, and five years for pointing a firearm. He received one-year sentences in Comanche County Detention Center for each misdemeanor charge. There will be no pre-sentencing investigation and the sentences are to run consecutively.

A prior felony of first-degree rape after former conviction of two or more felonies charge was dismissed in March 2022, records indicate.

The charges stemmed from a June 18, 2021, incident where a woman claimed she’d been strangled the night before. She testified she’d met Cooper through one of her online ads for sex work and they began a casual relationship that turned to business when he learned how much money she made. She said he took over her business and would take the money for herself as well as setting up appointments for her and making her go to them. She claimed she’d seen him become violent and feared him.

The woman testified he’d beaten and raped her before she was able to get away. He fled with a gun and was found by police at 1510½ NW Baldwin. A fresh shell casing found in the entry, according to the probable affidavit. Police testified Cooper was found with his arm around another man and was pointing a gun at him.

Police reported recovering a .40 caliber Smith & Wesson pistol, a bag containing three ecstasy pills, a bag with multiple Xanax bars, and a vile containing THC from his bag, the affidavit states. It was learned he also had three active arrest warrants.

Cooper’s four prior felony convictions are from Comanche County: February 2013, knowingly concealing/withholding stolen property, larceny; September 2015, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and endangering others while attempting to elude police; and March 2019, escape from a penitentiary, records indicate.

Cooper has been held in the Comanche County Detention Center since his initial court appearance on June 22, 2021.
