Police investigating body found in central Lawton

CYRIL — A second person has died following an Oct. 4 head-on wreck in Caddo County.

Cris C. Naputi, 72, of Lawton, died Sunday at an Oklahoma City hospital from injuries sustained in the wreck, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. He was first sent to Comanche County Memorial Hospital before being transferred to OU Medical where he was admitted in critical but stable condition with head and internal trunk injuries.

Cris Naputi was a passenger in a Kia Soul driven by Brenda F. Naputi that was traveling westbound in a heavy downpour on U.S. 277 shortly before 3:15 p.m. Oct. 4 when, for an unknown reason, the Kia drifted left of center and into the path of an eastbound Chevrolet truck driven by George S. Hicks, Trooper Jared Martinez reported. The vehicles collided about 2 miles east of Cyril, pinning 84-year-old Roberta Cole, another passenger in the Kia, for about 30 minutes before she was freed by Cyril and Cement firefighters using a hydraulic tool.

Brenda F. Naputi, 67, of Lawton, died at the scene.

Cole, from Altoona, Pa., was first taken to Comanche County Memorial Hospital before being transferred to OU Medical in Oklahoma City where she was admitted in critical condition with internal head, neck, arm, internal trunk and leg injuries, the report states. There are no updates to her condition.

Hicks, 79, of Hawley, Texas, was not injured, according to the report.

Martinez reported the condition of the Brenda Naputi remains under investigation with the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner.
