Accused of following two women with a gun, using a laser pointer to frighten them and ramming their car, a 20-year-old Lawton man is now in jail on $100,000 bond.
Latavion Jamal Henderson made his initial appearance Wednesday in Comanche County District Court where he was charged with felony counts of feloniously pointing a firearm and malicious injury to property over $1,000, records indicate.
Lawton Police Officer Hunter Phillips stated he was called to Central Plaza shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday with information that Henderson was following the women, had a gun and had rammed their car. Henderson was detained at the scene.
The women said they’d begun the night at Red Dirt Reloaded when they saw Henderson following and watching them, according to the probable cause affidavit. They said they left with Henderson following in his red Mazda car to their apartment in the 300 block of Northwest 4th Street when Henderson got in front of them and pointed a bright red laser at them which they believed could have been mounted on his gun, Phillips stated.
The women drove off and attempted to pull into the police station while calling 911 but said he continued following while they circled the building several times, the affidavit states. They fled with Henderson following into the mall parking lot and said he rammed their vehicle two times, damaging the rear driver and rear passenger sides, according to Phillips. At one point, according to the women, Henderson drove up beside them and pointed his pistol with the laser sight aimed on their bodies.
Henderson gave police multiple explanations of what was going on and seemed “extremely nervous and stuttered quite often, making his story quite difficult to keep up with,” Phillips stated. He denied having a gun or laser pointer and claimed the wreckage was from accidental contact, the affidavit states. His front bumper had damage consistent with ramming another vehicle, investigators said.
A chamber-loaded 9mm handgun with 15 hollow point bullets inside and a flashlight laser attachment atop it was found near the driver’s side of Henderson’s vehicle, according to the affidavit. The gun was scrapped as if it were slid on the ground, Phillips stated.
Henderson returns to court at 3 p.m. Feb. 27, 2024, for his preliminary hearing conference, records indicate.
