The death of an inmate discovered unresponsive Saturday morning at the Lawton City Jail is under investigation by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI).
The inmate has been identified as Isaac D’wayne Shaffer-Parker, 25, following identification by the state Medical Examiner, according to Agent Gerald Davidson, interim information officer for the OSBI.
The inmate was discovered during a “routine cell check” after 7 a.m. Saturday, Davidson said. The Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine cause and manner of death.
Lawton Police Sgt. Christopher Blessing said due to the death happening in the city facility, the investigation has been turned over to the state bureau for inquiry.
According to jail logs, Shaffer-Parker had been in custody since 9:31 p.m. April 23 when he was booked in for a count of disturbing the peace. He had not been charged in Comanche County District Court, records indicate.
