The Lawton Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating after a fire killed two people on Monday.
The Lawton Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 1924 NW Oak just before noon. Engine 4 arrived first and found smoke coming from the back of the structure. The officer and firefighter from Engine 4 entered the home and quickly extinguished the fire, according to a press release.
While performing a primary search, they located two victims. The first victim was dead, and the second victim was removed from the structure, and rescue efforts were attempted in the backyard. Lawton Fire crews, along with crews from Comanche County Memorial Hospital EMS and Kirks EMS, attempted life-saving efforts, but were unsuccessful, according to a press release.
The Lawton Fire Marshal’s Office is leading the investigation into the cause of the fire and is being assisted by detectives from the Lawton Police Department. Foul play is not expected, according to the press release.
The release of the victims’ names is pending notification of the next of kin.
Fire Crews from Fire Stations 4, 1, 5, and 8 responded to the fire.
