ANADARKO — A Lawton couple is accused of committing a pair of Caddo County burglaries on March 6.
The Caddo District Court issued felony arrest warrants Monday for James Lee Vaughn, 49, and Pauline Sue Garrison, 47, records indicate.
Garrison is accused of felony charges of second-degree burglary and conspiracy.
Vaughn received two separate warrants: second-degree burglary, conspiracy, grand larceny and malicious injury to property under $1,000 for one; and second-degree burglary and petit larceny. Due to his prior felonies, he faces between four years to life in prison if convicted of the burglary charges.
Cyril Police Chief Richard Jones stated he was called shortly after 6 p.m. March 4 to a home at 502 Colorado Street regarding a burglary. The resident said she’d returned home and found the front door kicked in and the house appeared ransacked, as well as discovering jewelry, $40 in cash, a bank card and Social Security cards had been taken, the warrant affidavit states.
The house had a security camera system. Video showed a red Ford Escape SUV with a man and woman in it drive into the driveway around 4:45 p.m. that day. The man was wearing a black Ariat ballcap and was seen walking to the front door, followed by a crashing sound, Jones stated. Soon after, the woman passenger moved into the driver’s seat and the man was seen walking out carrying an animal bed with multiple items on top of it, the affidavit states. He put the items inside and got in the passenger side before leaving.
Several hours later, Jones was assisting on a separate incident when Caddo County Sheriff’s Deputies said the vehicle matches one from another burglary on March 4 at a home in the 19000 block of Oklahoma 19, according to the affidavit. Security video showed the same man was wearing the same clothes when he broke into a shop building and stole a chainsaw and shop vacuum.
Jones later learned the vehicle had gone to the Golden Eagle Casino in Apache. He also received a tip from a man who said he was driving behind the wanted SUV and provided the tag number and address in Lawton where it parked at 105 NE Arlington Drive, the affidavit states.
The man and woman, Vaughn and Garrison, were identified from providing their information at the casino to obtain Player’s Club cards, Jones stated.
On March 6, Jones staked out the Lawton home and, with Lawton police help, made contact with Vaughn and Garrison; he was wearing the same black ballcap from the video, the affidavit states.
During an interview, Vaughn admitted to going to the casino but denied going to Cyril, according to Jones. When confronted with the suspicions the couple committed the burglaries, Vaughn said he was “high on medication tablets” and he couldn’t recall everything he did, the affidavit states. He then asked for an attorney.
Garrison admitted also to going to the casino but denied being in Cyril. When confronted about the Cyril burglary investigation, she asked for a lawyer, Jones stated.
Vaughn has prior felony convictions from Oklahoma County: October 1996, receiving/possessing/concealing stolen property; April 1998, child abuse; July 2013, receiving/possessing/concealing stolen property and larceny of a motor vehicle; and April 2019, unauthorized use of a vehicle, records indicate.
