A new round of residential street upgrades should begin by early 2024, after action by the City Council.

Council members voted Tuesday to approve plans and specifications for eight residential streets that will be funded through the Ad Valorem Streets Improvement Program, a program originally voted into place by residents in 2017 and extended for 10 more years in a citywide vote earlier this month.

The original program identified funding that was targeted toward residential street upgrades in all eight City Council wards, and city staff is ready to launch what is estimated as a $5.75 million package, said City Engineer Joe Painter.

“These are the last of the identified residential projects,” Painter said, of a program that will have upgraded 30 residential streets when it is completed.

Council approval of plans and specifications means city staff can begin advertising for bids. Painter said he expects the bidding process to be completed and a recommendation made to the council by November, with an estimated start date on the first of those streets in early 2024, weather permitting. The estimated completion for the road work is 400 days.

Street projects to be bid are:

• Southwest 51st Street, West Gore Boulevard to a spot 450 feet to the south.

• Coral Avenue, Forest Avenue to Boatsman Avenue.

• Southwest 77th Street, Forest Avenue to Delta Avenue.

• Taylor Avenue, Hunter Road to Northwest 72nd Street.

• Southwest 43rd Street, Wolf Street to Wendy Drive.

• Boyles Landing Road, Pamela Lane to West Lee Boulevard.

• Elm Avenue, Northwest 53rd Street to Northwest 57th Street.

• The intersection of Northwest Euclid Avenue and Northwest 63rd Street.
