Thanks to the Lawton Chapter AMBUCS, the Children United Park in Elmer Thomas Park is $15,000 closer to meeting its goal.
During the chapter’s Thursday meeting at Salas Urban Cantina, the large check, both in its size and amount, was presented by President Jerrel Guy Green and Big Hat President Michael Towe to Children United Directors Jeannette Klein and Carrie Paye.
The money joins $680,000 already raised to go toward completing construction and equipment placement for this inclusive and wheel-chair accessible playground. Begun with a dream by the late-Joe Chesko in 2018, construction began this year with a May groundbreaking.
While the Children United Committee is closing in on the over $1 million projected amount needed to get the park opened, more help is needed, said Taren Cabelka, the former president of the Lawton Chapter AMBUCS.
“Children’s United is still requesting donations and specifically donations for pickets to be on the fence posts around the new playground,” she said. “The fence posts donations are $100 a post and can be purchased through Children’s United.”
If you want to donate to the Children United Park, you can contact Jeannette Klein through the Children United Facebook page. There is a link taking you directly to a donation platform, she said. There’s a QR code you can scan with your phone.
If you want to donate through check or cash, contact Klein via email: liljeannie1951@gmail; or call 580-581-6249.
