Lawton building permits topped $15 million in May, thanks largely to a handful of commercial projects.
Residential permits accounted for $2.315 million. The city issued three permits for single-family homes valued at $1.15 million and one duplex valued at $216,000.
The largest commercial permit, valued at $8.5 million, is to remodel the former Carmike 8 theater at 7102 Cache Road. Comanche County Memorial Hospital will use the 43,629-square-foot building for a new Lawton Community Healthcare Center that will include services for autism.
Other large commercial permits included:
•A $1.5 million permit to construct a new 12,480-square-foot Dollar General store at 7010 W. Lee;
•A $949,749 permit to replace the roof of First Baptist Church West, 7302 Cache Road;
•A $500,000 permit to replace the water treatment building at Bar-S Foods, 802 Goodyear Blvd.;
•A $200,000 permit for a roof for the shopping center at 3414 Cache Road;
•A $175,000 remodeling permit for the shoe department at Dick’s Sporting Goods, 261 NW 2nd;
•A $150,000 permit for a concrete pad at Silver-Line Plastics, 8801 SW Neal Blvd., for new silos to store raw materials;
•A $150,000 permit to complete lease space for an outpatient physical therapy center at 1734 NW 82nd;
•A $100,000 permit for a roof on a commercial building at 904 SW C;
•A $79,000 remodeling permit to convert space at Great Plains Technology Center, 4500 W. Lee, for a cosmetology training program;
•A $70,000 permit for a roof for a commercial building at 1801 S. 11th;
•A $65,000 permit to remodel bathrooms at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 41 SE Ford;
•A $60,164 permit to remodel the kitchen at the H.C. King Community Center, 1705 NW 20th; and
•A $38,000 permit to add a carport to Lawton Motorsports, 5110 Cache Road.
