The Lawton Book and Play Review Club will meet Thursday to review the book “The Extraordinary Life of an Extraordinary Man: A Memoir.”
The meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the McMahon Foundation, 716 SW C.
Nancy Ashley will review The Extraordinary Life of an Extraordinary Man: A Memoir,” an oral history on Paul Newman. According to Good Reads, the book was crafted by Newman, his family and friends, including movie stars, then adding Newman’s comments on his own life story. Officials said honesty from all who contributed was a mandate. Newman discusses his insecurities during his teenage years, his first marriage, his drinking, his philanthropy and the loss of his son Scott. He also talks about his loving relationship with Joanne Woodward.
Nancy Ashley was born in Mississippi. She earned her bachelor of arts degree at the Mississippi University of Women and her master of arts degree in teaching at Vanderbilt University. She taught ninth grade English. She is a well-known speaker throughout the Dallas area and a familiar speaker with the Lawton Book and Play Review Club.
The meeting is open to everyone. Yearly membership is $30, which includes six reviews. Or, an individual review is $10.
