Officials with Lawton’s mass transit system will hold a public meeting Friday to explain changes being planned for bus routes.
LATS officials will take proposed changes to their fixed routes to the City Transit Trust on Nov. 12, but before then have a series of meetings scheduled to solicit comments from riders and others. Friday’s meeting will begin at 1 p.m. in the Banquet Room of Lawton City Hall, Southwest 9th Street and Southwest C Avenue.
LATS General Manager Ryan Landers said the public meetings are designed to allow riders and residents to express their thoughts and share ideas about the proposed changes. Those changes include moving some routes to different parts of Lawton to expand service, while also planning shorter routes that will operate at different times. Proposals also include adding evening hours and Sunday bus service.
In addition to Friday’s meeting, sessions are planned for:
• Nov. 7: 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Owens Multipurpose Center, 1405 S. 11th; and 2 p.m. in the Banquet Room of Lawton City Hall, 212 SW 9th.
• Nov. 8: 10 a.m. at the H.C. King Center, 1705 NW 20th; and 2 p.m. in the Banquet Room of Lawton City Hall.
A public hearing also will be held at the Nov. 12 meeting of the City Transit Trust (a function of the City Council), before that body makes a decision.
