DUNCAN — Accused of harassing drivers the day after Christmas, a Duncan man is in jail for allegations of assaulting and threatening police.
Wesley Levin Williams, 32, made his initial appearance in Stephens County District Court where he received a felony charge of assault and battery on a police officer and misdemeanor charges of marijuana possession, obstructing police and threatening to perform an act of violence. The felony is punishable by up to five years in prison.
Police were called around 10:45 p.m. Dec. 26, 2023, to the area of 12th Street and Oak Avenue to the report of a man who was lunging in front of cars and attempting to stop the vehicles and get inside them, stated Officer Jonathan Webb. Williams was found hiding in a bush in a nearby yard and refused to comply with police orders, the probable cause affidavit states. While attempting to arrest Williams, investigators said he kicked an officer in the legs and had to be taken town with a baton before being handcuffed.
Police found a bag of marijuana in Williams’ pocket, Webb stated. While being placed into a patrol unit, Williams threatened to “murder” Webb, the affidavit states.
Held on $50,000 bond, Williams returns to court at 9 a.m. March 20 for his preliminary hearing conference, records indicate.
