Sports briefs

There were not a lot of high scores last week but for Jeff Janssen who came very close to an 800 series while bowling in the Suburban league at Twin Oaks, Fort Sill.

Janssen had games of 267, 247 and 259 to post 773 for the week’s high series.

A distant second on the Suburban high scores list was Chris Lowe with 709 on games of 269, 239 and 201 and Matt Casey who finished with 702 for the night.

Casey also gets credit for the high game of the week of 279, his entry for game two after throwing a 169 for openers.

Chad Perry was second high on the honor roll with 740 from the Early Birds where he rolled 215, 257 and 268, followed by Brant Hill who shot 242, 233 and 248 for a 723.

The Early Birds was the setting for the ladies highs as Amy Copeland penciled in 210, 187 and 264 for a super 661 series.

And Bill Kaplan was still reeling from the previous week’s perfecto in the Tuesday Night Mixed, putting up a 722 this week on games of 205, 257 and 260.

And a shout out to a couple of new bowlers in the TNT league, Nathan Tucker and Kevin Williams.

Tucker rolled his first certified 200 game of 201 off a 105 average last week and Williams posted his first certified 200 game of 206, shooting off a 120 average.

Youth Highlights

Jake Croft topped youth charts with a 610 series in the TBird Legends where he had games of 200, 174 and 236 to make up the high set.

Meanwhile, TBird HotShots Super Star Dominic ‘DJ’ Scott posted a career high 506 series that started with a league high game of 179.

DJ added games of 149 and 178 to sum up his best set to date.

And rolling in the bumper MiniShots squad, William Hern had back to back games of 101 and 100 and Ellie Madden ended her day with a 107 game.

No-Tap News

For the second week the ladies scores bested the men’s as Dee Gustafson took first place in the women’s division of last week’s Senior No-Tap Colorama at Thunderbird Lanes with an 880 series that was the high set of the day.

Gustafson rolled scratch games of 200, 258 and 263, beating out Sue Avis who rolled the second highest series of the day of 815.

Avis finished off her set with a big 275 score to assist in the total.

Sam Bowman was the men’s high roller with 788 followed by Charles Norman, 783, and Randy Travis, 775.

Bowman took first in Scratch Singles with 734 and Mike Peckinpaugh claimed second with 700 even.

Honorable mention goes to Dave Yett for a 298, the high game of the event.

Mystery Doubles winners were Roy Johnson with David Jones, 506, Dee Gustafson with Cleo Travis, 558 and Charles Norman with Randy Travis, 584.

Challenge shots were unscathed but Robert Lansberry, Cleo Travis, Roy Johnson and Diane Frame all managed to pick up a little strike pot cash.

This event is held every Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Thunderbird Lanes for senior bowlers age 50 and over with verifiable averages.
