DUNCAN — Accused of a pattern of criminality, arrest warrants were issued Thursday for a Stephens County woman and a teen charged as a youthful offender.
Felony arrest warrants were issued for Rebecca Michelle Morgan, 20, of Comanche; and Serenity Amaya Lucas, 17, of Duncan. Both are accused of a series of crimes stemming from thefts from Morgan’s adopted mother.
Morgan is charged with felony counts of aiding a minor of possession of controlled dangerous substances and pattern of criminal offenses, and misdemeanor counts of two charges of unauthorized use of a debit card, marijuana possession, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of stolen property, records indicate.
The teen, Lucas, is charged as a youthful offender with a felony count of pattern of criminal offenses, and misdemeanor counts of two charges of unauthorized use of a debit card, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, and possession of stolen property.
Youthful offender status is when a young person commits a crime but is granted special status entitling him or her to a more lenient punishment (as one involving probation or confinement in a special youth correctional facility) than would otherwise be available.
Stephens County Sheriff’s Deputy Rylan Brammer stated he received a larceny report Monday afternoon from Morgan’s adopted mother about her two cards and a cell phone taken from her purse the night before. She said Morgan and Lucas were staying at her home but had left in the morning.
According to the arrest warrant affidavit, around $1,200 had been withdrawn from the woman’s bank account but she’d shut off the stolen phone. Brammer stated he knew Lucas to be a habitual youthful offender.
The next day, Brammer saw Morgan and Lucas leaving a convenience store and he pulled them over on U.S. 81 near Camelback Road. The deputy stated he smelled marijuana when approached the car, however, Morgan and her passenger, Lucas, denied there was any in the car, the affidavit states. The teen said there were two marijuana dab pen cartridges in a bag in the front seat, Brammer stated.
Morgan admitted she’d taken the woman’s cell phone and debit cards “because I was mad at her,” the deputy stated. She said she’d used the debit cards to make withdrawals and purchases, including for hotel rooms in Oklahoma City and Lawton, according to the affidavit. She said the teen had another marijuana dab pen in her shorts.
Brammer had Lucas retrieve the dab pen and when asked if she had anything else illegal on her person, she pulled another dab pen, a cartridge and a baggie containing cocaine out from under her shirt, the affidavit states.
Following Thursday afternoon court appearances, Morgan is being held on $10,000 bond and Lucas’ was set at $50,000.
