Improvement work will begin on the H.E. Bailey Turnpike/I-44 this week will affect interstate traffic near Fletcher.
The northbound and southbound lanes will narrow to one lane in each direction between Northeast 180th Street (mile marker 62) near Fletcher and mile marker 78 near Pikes Peak Road, south of Chickasha. The work involves shoulder pavement and guardrail improvements. The project is set to begin Tuesday and will last through early Fall.
Officials with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation said there will always be one lane open in each direction, but the speed limit will be reduced to 65 mph. Ramps will not be affected.
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation awarded the $9.2 million project to Haskell Lemon Construction Co. in March.
