DUNCAN — A 3-month-old baby girl with a 0.21 blood alcohol content — over twice the legal limit for a fully grown adult — as well as severe injuries including a skull fracture led to the arrest of a Stephens County couple for child neglect.
Haley Leann Hensley, 26, and Michael Dallas Guy, 29, both of Marlow, were charged Dec. 30, 2024, in Stephens County District Court where they each received felony child neglect charges, records indicate. The crime is punishable by up to life in prison and, due to the nature of the charge, 85 percent of a sentence would have to be served before consideration for parole.
Stephens County Sheriff’s Captain Timothy Vann stated a Department of Human Services Child Welfare Specialist contacted him on Dec. 23, 2024, due to the baby’s blood alcohol content as well as possible marijuana exposure discovered at Duncan Regional Hospital. The baby also had fractures to multiple ribs in various stages of healing and a skull fracture, the probable cause affidavit states.
Hensley and Guy spoke with the investigator at the hospital and each said they didn’t know how the child got the alcohol, denied drinking alcohol, and claimed the baby had fallen out of a bumper swing a week before and received a black eye, Vann stated. They also said the girl’s 2 and 4-year-old sisters play rough with her and may have caused the fractured ribs, the affidavit states.
The doctors told Vann the injuries were inconsistent from being caused by a fall at low height or from being stepped on or falling but from being grabbed. The doctor stated the “combination of the findings are highly suggestive of non-accidental trauma” and that he had “a high suspicion for abuse given the fact that there is (sic) multiple fractures in the ribs and they are in different stages of healing in addition to the skull fracture in addition to the alcohol and possible marijuana intoxication,” according to the affidavit.
After telling the couple a search warrant of their home was being obtained, Hensley said there was stuff in the home from before she got sober, Vann stated. The couple followed the deputy to the home but left on foot when they arrived to find deputies there, the affidavit states.
Hensley continued speaking with the child welfare specialist by phone and claimed another friend came over the night before and was drinking alcohol but couldn’t provide a reason why the child would have drunk it, the investigator stated. She finally said the alcohol was Guy’s but they didn’t know how the girl got any of it, according to the affidavit.
A search of the house turned up several empty bottles of alcohol, many in Hensley’s room, and a large empty bottle of vodka in a trash can along with an empty bottle of orange juice, Vann stated. There was also a broken glass pipe used to smoke methamphetamine with residue located, the affidavit states.
Guy has two prior felony convictions: Canadian County, July 2017, domestic abuse by strangulation; and in Stephens County, July 2018, possession of a stolen vehicle, records indicate.
Guy is not in custody and a $50,000 cash warrant bond was issued upon his arrest.
Hensley made her initial court appearance and she is being held on $200,000 bond with the stipulation she have no contact with her children.
