An arrest warrant was issued Wednesday for an Eisenhower High School teacher/coach for allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a student.
The Comanche County District Court issued a felony arrest warrant for Nieko “Nicko” Miranda, 43, of Lawton, for a count of sexual battery, records indicate. The crime is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
Lawton police began investigating Miranda on Feb. 7 when the girl’s mother reported her 18-year-old daughter had been staying at Miranda’s house, 1905 NW Glenn, and that he was her teacher, the warrant affidavit states. She said the girl’s GPS location showed she stayed overnight and had spent several hours there, Detective Marcus Rucker stated.
The girl said she goes there to discuss school matters and denied staying the night.
A digital analysis of the teen’s phone was conducted and messages between Miranda and the teen dated from November 2023 to Feb. 11, the affidavit states. Rucker stated the messages are “explicit” between the teacher and student.
Discussions included meeting in his classroom as well as her coming to his house and included sexual talk between them, according to the affidavit. There also was discussion of them being together after she graduates from high school. Miranda identified her as his girlfriend in some messages, the detective stated.
Miranda was a computer science teacher and head girls volleyball coach at Eisenhower High School since being hired in June 2022, according to Miranda’s social media post announcing the news.
Upon notification of the allegation, Miranda was immediately placed on administrative leave, said Lynn Cordes, Lawton Public Schools executive director of communications. Law enforcement and all proper authorities were notified and an investigation conducted, she said.
“The employee is no longer with the district,” she said. “Safety is the forefront of our priorities and we take every report seriously.”
A $100,000 cash warrant bond was issued upon Miranda’s arrest and as part of the conditions, he is to have no contact with the student.
