An arrest warrant was issued for a Lawton man accused of pulling a gun on and threatening the man seeing his ex-wife.
The Comanche County District Court issued a felony arrest warrant Friday for Eddie Caldwell Jr., 44, for a count of assault with a dangerous weapon, records indicate.
Police received a complaint that following a brief argument, Caldwell pulled a gun on the other man who was walking with his ex-wife and three of her juvenile children on Oct. 5 near Northwest 25th Street and Lincoln Avenue, according to the warrant affidavit.
The man said he saw Caldwell driving by while they were walking from the store and he picked up a rock to protect them after being threatened by Caldwell before, Lawton Police Detective Marcus Rucker stated in the affidavit. He said Caldwell drove behind them and yelled at the kids to get out of the way and they took off running.
Caldwell is accused of pointing the gun at the other man until the woman got between them. That’s when the man said he threw the rock, hitting him. He said Caldwell threatened to kill him and “how he was going to get his homeboys,” the affidavit states.
The man said Caldwell drove off and then came back, swerving his truck to try to hit him causing him to leap into a yard to keep from being hit. He said Caldwell pointed the gun out of the window at his chest with a laser sight aimed red, according to the affidavit.
The woman told Rucker Caldwell told her she wouldn’t have a choice to come back to him after shooting the man. She described the gun as a .380 caliber pistol, Rucker stated.
Caldwell told investigators it had been dark outside when he saw people walking and stopped until they were under the streetlight to realize it was the man, woman and his children, the affidavit states. He said he got out of his truck to talk to his children and the next thing he knew, the man threw the rock, hitting him in the face. He said he drove away and didn’t return. He told Rucker he is a convicted felon and doesn’t have a gun.
A $30,000 cash warrant bond was issued upon Caldwell’s arrest.
