Following three days of an emotional trial, a Comanche County jury found a 23-year-old Lawton man guilty for murder of an April 2023 shooting death and recommended he serve life in prison without parole.
Corey Dion Schexnayder Jr. was found guilty Friday night in Presiding District Judge Emmit Tayloe’s court for felony counts of first-degree murder — deliberate intent or, in the alternative, first-degree murder — felony murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, shooting into a dwelling, and conspiracy to commit felony discharging a firearm into a dwelling.
The jury recommended Schexnayder serve life in prison without parole for the murder count, 20 years for the conspiracy count and 10 years each for the shooting and conspiracy counts.
Schexnayder was convicted of shooting an apartment at the Timbers Apartments, 120 NW 44th, the morning of April 2, 2023 killing Shakirr Cogdell. Schexnayder was identified as borrowing and driving a truck involved in the incident.
Another man, Fernando O’Neil Devin Daniels, 29, of Lawton, is scheduled to begin trial Monday in District Judge Grant Sheperd’s court for felony charges of first-degree murder, shooting into a dwelling, conspiracy to use a vehicle to fire a gun and possession of a firearm after former felony convictions, records indicate.
