Cache High School football head coach Faron Griffin announced he had resigned his position Tuesday, telling his team about the move during a team meeting.
Griffin is a native of Cache and had held the job for the past six years. Before taking over at Cache, Griffin had served as the head football coach at Walters and that is the same job he will be taking over again after Chuck Terry resigned as the Blue Devils’ head coach recently.
After the team meeting he posted a message on the Cache Football Facebook page and said, “the last few years have been tough on me and my family.”
Griffin also voiced confidence that Cache Athletic Director Lisa O’Kelley would take the program forward in rugged Class 4A.
“Change is needed,” Griffin said on his Facebook message. “Ms. O’Kelley is one of the best and she will put the program in good hands.”
Superintendent Chad Hance and O’Kelley are expected to launch an immediate search for a replacement as the Bulldogs will face another tough 4A district race next fall with the regular powers in that district such as Clinton, Weatherford, and Elk City, plus the addition of Elgin which is now the largest school in Class 4A. District 4A-1 also includes Bridge Creek, Douglass and Woodward.
Cache will continue with its summer camp which will be run by the assistant coaches who will also be taking the linemen to the Bixby Lineman Camp this summer.
