ANADARKO — A Grady County man is in jail after several violent incidents, including shooting a woman.
Jacob Scott Phillips, 26, of Chickasha, made his initial appearance Friday in Caddo County District Court where he received felony counts of assault and battery with a deadly weapon, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm after former felony conviction, records indicate.
Due to a May 2019 felony conviction in Grady County for possession of a stolen vehicle, Phillips faces up to life in prison if convicted of any of these counts.
Caddo County Sheriff’s Deputy Chris Leal stated he was called Feb. 17 to a reported shooting and got information there also were two stabbing victims. A vehicle leaving the scene carrying the two injured women was stopped by police and they were taken to Physicians Hospital in Anadarko, the probable cause affidavit states. They would later be flown to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City for treatment.
Before their transfer, Leal spoke with the women. One woman was “in extreme pain” with a seven-inch long and one-inch wide stab wound to her stomach, the affidavit states. The other woman identified Kylee Nichole Byfield from a photo and said she had a knife in her hand before stabbing her and the other woman, according to Leal.
Leal also learned Byfield had been shot in the elbow and transferred to OU Medical Center. She was arrested after being released from treatment.
Byfield’s sister told Leal she’d seen Phillips with a Smith & Wesson revolver in the waistband of his pants and pull it out but didn’t see him fire it. According to the affidavit, she’d seen him with the gun along with another she believed he’d sold.
A man who lives at the home told Leal he’d seen Phillips fire the gun toward the house and it’s believed that’s when Byfield was shot, the affidavit states. Investigators later found a Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum revolver near the crime scene.
Another man who was visiting the home said he’d seen Phillips and Byfield fighting outside and when he tried to break it up, Phillips hit him in the face with a hard-shelled motorcycle helmet, Leal stated.
Phillips was picked up by Chickasaw Lighthorse Police on Feb. 21 for unrelated warrants and he was being treated for what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the affidavit states.
Following her initial appearance Feb. 20 for two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, Byfield, 27, of Chickasha, was freed on $25,000 bond, records indicate. She returns to court at 9 a.m. May 2 for her preliminary hearing conference.
Held on $500,000 bond, Phillips returns to court at 9 a.m. May 2 for his preliminary hearing conference, records indicate.
