Voters in Senate District 32 will go to the polls Oct. 10 to fill the seat left vacant by the resignation of Sen. John Michael Montgomery.
Montgomery sent Gov. Kevin Stitt his resignation earlier this month, effective Aug. 1, to take over as the president/CEO of the Lawton Fort Sill Chamber of Commerce. The Lawton Republican was elected to his second term as Oklahoma senator in November.
Under state law, the governor is tasked with setting an election date to fill vacancies in the Senate and House. According to Stitt’s proclamation, he ordered a special primary election to be held Oct. 10 and a special general election on Dec. 12. If a primary is not needed, the special general election will be held Oct. 10 instead.
The filing period for that Senate 32 seat will be July 31 and Aug. 1-2, the same three-day period that Lawton City Council candidates also will file their declarations of candidacy.
