Friends and family of the Stripes Convenience Store clerk killed in a Sunday shooting are seeking the public’s help in assisting his fiancé and newborn son.
Evan Jackson was shot and killed following an incident while on the job around 2:30 a.m. Sunday outside the Stripes Convenience Store, 601 S. Sheridan.
Dominique Anthony Lyon is suspected of killing Jackson and seriously wounding an off-duty Stripes employee.
Jackson, a Lawton resident, had a newborn son Axel. Friends and family have set up a GoFundMe to assist his family with funeral costs. The stated goal is to raise $8,000.
“Evan was dedicated to his family and improving the life for his newborn son Axel and fiancé Hannah,” according to the fundraiser. “He was a hardworking and kind-hearted individual who always went above and beyond to help others. It is truly incomprehensible that such a vibrant life could be cut short in such a senseless and violent manner.”

Lyon is accused of stopping by the store as Jackson and an off-duty employee were trying to remove a man who had been banned from the property. Lyon stopped his truck and he and his passenger got out and began fighting with the store employees and one of Jackson’s friends, according to law enforcement officials.
During the altercation, Jackson grabbed Lyon, pinning his arms. Lyon’s passenger convinced Jackson to let go of Lyon. When Jackson let go, Lyon got up, pulled out a gun and shot Jackson and the off-duty employee multiple times, killing Jackson, according to the probable affidavit. Everyone ran and Lyon and his passenger got in the truck and fled.
The Lawton Police Department SWAT Team arrested Lyon, 22, at his home Tuesday evening. He made his initial appearance Wednesday in Comanche County District Court where he was charged with a felony count of first-degree murder – deliberate intent, records indicate. The crime is punishable by life in prison, life without parole or death.
His bond has been set at $1 million. He returns to court at 3 p.m. May 28 for his preliminary hearing conference, records indicate.
Jackson’s death is the city’s fourth recorded this year as a homicide, according to Constitution records.
