A Fort sill trainee has died and the cause is under investigation.
Spc. Ruben Noel Rodriguez, a trainee attending Basic Combat Training at the Army post and a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard, passed away the evening of Jan. 16, at a local hospital while receiving medical treatment, according to Fires Center of Excellence and Fort Sill Public Affairs.
Rodriguez joined the Army to train as an 88M (Motor Transport Operator).
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to Spc. Rodriguez’s family, friends, and fellow trainees,” said Col. Reginald White, 434th Field Artillery Brigade Commander. “Spc. Rodriguez was dedicated to serving his country and was just beginning his journey as a soldier. His loss is deeply felt, not only within our Fort Sill community but also in his Pennsylvania National Guard unit. We are committed to supporting his family and honoring his memory during this difficult time.”
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death is ongoing.
