Fort Sill Indian School Alumni Reunion set

The Kiowa, Comanche and Apache Intertribal Land Use Committee, Comanche Academy Charter School PTA and the Comanche Nation Historic Preservation will host the Fort Sill Indian School Alumni Reunion.

The reunion will take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday on Lawrie Tatum Road at Fort Sill Indian School.

According to a flyer, activities include a welcome message and raising of the flags, a healing presentation by Lenora Parker, an alumni from the school, and a round dance in the gym. Any alumni can speak or talk about their experiences and time at the school.

Yolonda Ramos, Executive Director of Kiowa, Comanche and Apache Intertribal Land Use Committee, said there will also be a bubble run at the school on Saturday, which will occur at the same time and place of the reunion.

“This is our third year doing the bubble run,” Ramos said. “I wanted to do (the reunion) on the same weekend that we do the bubble run, so we can get them all together because the bubble run is always at the Fort Sill Indian School.”

Ramos said signs and pictures around the school will show the history of the school while children are participating in the run.

“Our kids are doing the one mile run or walk,” Ramos said. “They’re able to see some of the history from the school. While the alumni is there, they’re going to be able to talk to the kids about their time and experiences at school.”

Ramos said there will be another reunion next year, which will include a powwow.

Ramos said anyone who came, worked or had families who attended or worked at the school are invited.

Reunion T-shirts will be available for purchase. Fort Sill Indian School asks attendees to bring their own chairs. They are not responsible for theft, accidents or injuries.
