Former Oklahoma State Sen. Anastasia Pittman will be the guest speaker for the NAACP Lawton Oklahoma Branch 6131’s Freedom Fund Banquet Saturday at Cameron University.
The banquet is slated from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the McCasland Ballroom of the McMahon Centennial Complex. Local officials said this will be the first Freedom Fund Banquet since 2019; the event was suspended in subsequent years because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s theme is NAACP: Thriving Together. The event is open to the public.
The banquet is a fundraiser for the local NAACP Branch, whose local members are all volunteers. Thus, the event generates funds needed for mission-focused initiatives. The NAACP is the nation’s oldest and largest civil rights organization, and has led the fight for civil rights, political liberty and social justice.
Tickets are $50 in advance and may be purchased by calling the event coordinator, Mrs. Delores Raphel, at (580) 536-6913, or John Moore at (580) 248-7619. Tickets are limited and will be available at the door for $60.
