DUNCAN — A former nurse’s aide at a Marlow care facility pleaded guilty to grabbing a resident suffering from dementia and throwing her to the ground in November 2022.
Emma Arena Harris, 35, of Rush Springs, pleaded guilty in Stephens County District Court on Oct. 1 to a felony count of abuse by caretaker, records indicate.
District Judge Brent G. Russell order Harris serve a seven year suspended sentence under Department of Corrections supervision as well as proof of an anger management course. She must also surrender her nursing license.
Harris admitted guilt to assaulting the patient during a Nov. 6, 2022, incident at Gregston’s Nursing Home in Marlow.
Security video showed Harris walk up to the patient, appear to say something to her before grabbing her arm “aggressively,” the arrest warrant affidavit states. Harris was then seen pulling the resident down the hall while walking to her room and once there, swung the resident by the arm trying to send her into the room but, instead, causing her to fall to her knees.
Harris was immediately terminated from her job.
