Fletcher will celebrate its 120th anniversary this summer, combined with a fundraiser to help the Fletcher Volunteer Fire Department purchase the Jaws of Life and bunker gear.
The American Legion and Auxiliary, Post 306, will host the daylong Fletcher Birthday Fest on July 2. The celebration will begin with a breakfast from 7:30 to 10 a.m. at the Community Center.
Other activities will include 50-50 bingo at noon and a live auction from 1 to 2 p.m., both at the fairgrounds. Mother Cluckin’ Chicken and San Juan Street Tacos will have food trucks available at the fairgrounds.
An amateur barbecue cook-off will give residents a chance to showcase their culinary skills and compete for a $500 first prize. The registration fee is $25 per contestant.
Contestants may register for the cook-off between 5 and 7 p.m. July 1 at the Legion Hut, 106 N. Selby in Fletcher or between 8 and 9 a.m. July 2 at the fairgrounds. Judging will begin at 3 p.m. on July 2.
The day will end with a fireworks display, which will begin at dark at the fairgrounds.
