OKLAHOMA CITY — On Thursday, following four days of trial, a federal jury found a Lawton man not guilty of selling a fatal dose of fentanyl in August 2023.
Breon Monte Bellamy, 36, was found not guilty in the U.S. Western District Court for charges of distribution of fentanyl resulting in death and drug conspiracy resulting in death, records indicate. He was convicted of a lesser included offense to the second count, drug conspiracy.
Sentencing will be scheduled for a later date. The maximum penalty is 20 years of imprisonment and/or a fine up to $1 million.
Bellamy’s conviction joins with with pleas entered in May 2024 by Reecy Ann Bench and Joanie Ann Wilson to counts of drug conspiracy in the case that resulted in an overdose death in Stephens County on Aug. 20 or 21, 2023, according to the indictment. The identity of the person who overdosed and died has not been disclosed.
Bellamy had been free from the Comanche County Detention Center on $40,000 bond after being arrested and charged in the Comanche County District Court for a felony charge of driving while under the influence of alcohol — second and subsequent, and misdemeanor counts of unsafe lane use and removing or improperly affixing a license plate, records indicate.
Before that, Bellamy was free on $50,000 bond for Comanche County charges of conspiracy to commit distribution of a controlled dangerous substance and unlawful use of a telephone to facilitate the commission of a felony, records indicate.
Records indicate those two cases remain pending.
