ANADARKO — After being on the run from the Oklahoma Department of Corrections (ODOC) and a violent Feb. 1 standoff that turned into a gun battle with Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers, a Caddo County man is facing 16 new felony charges.
On Wednesday, the Caddo County District Court issued a felony arrest warrant for Preston Tyler Lange, 35, of Gracemont, for nine counts of shooting with intent to kill, five counts of assault and battery with a deadly weapon and counts of use of electronic device during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm after former felony conviction, records indicate. He faces between 20 years to life in prison per count if convicted of the shooting and assault charges.
A felony arrest warrant was issued Jan. 24 for Lange for a count of escaping the ODOC.
Lange was sentenced in Caddo County in September 2021 to serve 10 years with three years suspended for a count of convicted felon in possession of firearms and another count of eluding/attempting to elude police; as well as in Grady County for possession of a firearm after former felony conviction and possession of a controlled dangerous substance, the warrant affidavit states. He was released from prison in August 2022 and was on parole with an ankle monitor when a strap violation happened at 8:37 p.m. on Dec. 12, 2023, ODOC Probation and Parole Officer Joshua Reed stated.
Attempts were made to locate Lange and investigators spoke with his mother. She was crying and said he’d cut the bracelet off and left on foot, the affidavit states. Reed went to the mother’s house and she gave the GPS unit and a note written by her son.
According to the affidavit, the note from Lange reads: “I love you & sorry, momma. Tell P.O. I can’t take orders from this corrupt system!!!”
On Feb. 1, Lange was tracked to a Gracemont home. As members of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol’s Tactical Team went to serve an arrest warrant, Lange opened fire from inside the home with a Mossberg Maverick 12-gauge shotgun, according to the affidavit. Investigators said he was using video from a security camera to identify where the troopers were coming from during the attack.
During the exchange five troopers were struck by gunfire, as was Lange.
